Mise En Scene
The music video follows the narrative of the lyrics, therefore allowing the song to tell a story throughout it is very simplistic although it uses multiple characters it only really focuses on two due to fast pace editing. The narrative is not only basic but repetitive, and the storyline is pretty hazy and could be misunderstood, this is where the enigma is created, due to different people's interpretations of the goings on of the video.
Editing
The majority of editing in the video is extremely fast pace, in order to keep up with the beat of the music, although certain shots are longer to make them seem 'more important' or even allow the narritive to be established- basically the fast pace shots on their own don't do much to the narrative, but when edited together they begin to make sense, where as the longer shots make sense on there own. As well as this montage editing is used throughout, it is a good way of representing 'chaos' in an organised fashion therefore, what the video is trying to portray can be shown in a fashion that is easier to understand, even if it still is enigmatic at the same time.
Camerawork
Not unlike many other music videos a variety of camera angles are used in this video. One shot in particular that is unusual and different is the two shot montage, that allows two different narratives to take place within the same screening, it is used a lot in this video to portay a contrast between the two main characters.
Obscure camera angles or general mise en scene is a common convention of this particular music video, for example a high angle shot is used to show the couple holding hands although- enigma is created; 'is it the couple or is it someone else' ...'could this be a point of view shot(POV) if so which characters POV is it?
The singing of 'Example' is used throughout despite the fact its a narrative, its almost as though he is telling us the story as he is going a long- with the narrative and through singing. This means there are alot of shots of him on his own singing, due to it being one of his earlier songs, the reasoning could be to get him known and recognised. Never the less mid shots are a common way of representing him.
The scene is immediately created through enigma , again leaving the audience asking 'who's feet are they', 'what is the relevence' etc. therefore creating a 'hook' so the video will be watched on.
