New Visual Style

I really like the country feel of many music videos I researched on youtube simply whe watching my artists they came up as suggested. I like the juxtaposition created with the country feel and look of the video and narrative compared with the lyrics and upbeatness of the song: much like Ben Howards music videos. I DO NOT like when the narrative of the music video tells the story of the lyrics in the song that was something I wanted to avoided but I feel bits of continuity e.g. He is singing about being in love and how this woman means everything to him- this is something I wanted to capture still, much like my previous visual style ideas. I feel focusing on the couple in the narrative keeps it simple and helps the audience focus although I wanted to cutaway to the lipsycning like many music videos having the singer seperate from the actor so its not like he's singing about himself- creating enigma.

here are some screenshots from Ben Howards 'Keep Your Head Up' a song that came on youtube suggestions when watching my own. As you can see the country theme works really well and I intend to use overlays to experiment with lighting.

He straight away uses hand cam- combined with overlays the rustic feel created too works really well. He also juxtaposes lighting really well- hard bright lighting and soft darker lighting, something I itend to experiment in my music video with artificial and natural lighting.

I also like how Ed Sheeran experiments with colour correction the mix of colour and black and white clips, something I could too do with my music video. Handcam is also used, again with overlays it doesnt look messy- I really like the way it looks.

Here is an example of the black and white overlay and the focus on just two actors to keep it simple

Here I really like how it is out of focus and the look it has created with the lights

I really like the vast use of overlays in Ed Sheerans Homeless music video as well as the contrast of artificial natural lighting, hard lighting and soft. (For Example Below)
