New Visual Style

I really like the country feel of many music videos I researched on youtube simply whe watching my artists they came up as suggested. I like the juxtaposition created with the country feel and look of the video and narrative compared with the lyrics and upbeatness of the song: much like Ben Howards music videos. I DO NOT like when the narrative of the music video tells the story of the lyrics in the song that was something I wanted to avoided but I feel bits of continuity e.g. He is singing about being in love and how this woman means everything to him- this is something I wanted to capture still, much like my previous visual style ideas. I feel focusing on the couple in the narrative keeps it simple and helps the audience focus although I wanted to cutaway to the lipsycning like many music videos having the singer seperate from the actor so its not like he's singing about himself- creating enigma.

here are some screenshots from Ben Howards 'Keep Your Head Up' a song that came on youtube suggestions when watching my own. As you can see the country theme works really well and I intend to use overlays to experiment with lighting.

He straight away uses hand cam- combined with overlays the rustic feel created too works really well. He also juxtaposes lighting really well- hard bright lighting and soft darker lighting, something I itend to experiment in my music video with artificial and natural lighting.

I also like how Ed Sheeran experiments with colour correction the mix of colour and black and white clips, something I could too do with my music video. Handcam is also used, again with overlays it doesnt look messy- I really like the way it looks.

Here is an example of the black and white overlay and the focus on just two actors to keep it simple

Here I really like how it is out of focus and the look it has created with the lights

I really like the vast use of overlays in Ed Sheerans Homeless music video as well as the contrast of artificial natural lighting, hard lighting and soft. (For Example Below)

Character & Location Change inc Location Shots

After spending a whole two days filming with my original cast and locations due to the majority of my footage being out of focus due to a combination of my bad eyesight an autofocusing, focusing on a different subject in the shot, Re-filming the footage was crutial. I got in touch with my original cast although they refused to take 2 days out again to refilm. Back to the drawing board it was for me, analysing the footage for me was key to find improvements to be made in take to of filming my music video. I realised the locations were random and didnt allow the 'love' and 'awkwardness' of the couple to stand out. I felt stripping locations back to basics was my only was of making the couple obvious and also create enigma without confusing the audience, my next stop was Cheshire. My parents have passes for castles over the country so I felt a location like that would be the perfect setting for establising love in a music video, simplistic yet dramatic- Beeston Castle. I did a wreccy trip on my own and thought it was perfect!

As well as this I saw a cute country pub which I though would make a nice scene for a 'date' when going in I realised the warm feel of it that could juxtapose the cold outdoor scenes again making a perfect location! This too was in Cheshire- The Nags Head

Next I thought a few country walk scenes would tie in perfectly, so no better place than The Sandstone Trail-Cheshire.

From here I found some excellent actors who agreed to act for two days on set of these locations IN FOCUS, and did a perfect job!

Website design rough plans

This is a rough draft of my homepage of my website design,  I intend to use continuity of the digipak and the music video I will do this by using similar overlays and settings as well as using the same 'Example' symbol.

I want to keep the 'Album Page' quite simplisic, this will have the same header as the other pages:

As well as this photos of the digipak will be included as well as a link to buy the album, I will put the photos in large circles to make it look nice and simplistic.

The photography page will carry the same theme of circles, and the same header of course, they will also contain captions.

Finally the music video page will contain the same header and a large square imbedded youtube video of the music video.

Other Artists Website Conventions

Rihanna: We can see from Rihanna's website there is an immediately clear colour scheme and the site contains photos of the artist, it is simplistic and the top of the page there are other tabs including 'shop' and 'music' The simplisity of this is something I want to take on board in my website design. We can also see the 'R' is her clear logo, so I will also make sure that I include the 'Example' logo on mine. In addition Rihanna's
webpage view is constantly shuffling the images- this presents her with a clear visual style; simplistic yet querky seen through the costume and make up choice and the 'green' splashes.

Calvin Harris: I don't really like this website design although again we can see the simplicity of the webpage is something of that is popular in this genre. There is continuity with this and his album- a look I endeavour to create. And photos of him are included.
Here we can see an example of the continuity between the album cover(above( and website design(below)due to the brick wall design

Katy Perry: Here again we see continuity; photographs of her as the artist and a drop down menu, unlike the other ones I researched into we can see overlays and blur effects are used on the photographs- two techniques I really like, as well as this I love the use of icons to create links to her sites such as 'twitter' 'facebook' etc this convergance means she has enhanced social media sites to promote herself and her music.

As we can see her twitter represents continuity of the photographs used on her website design.

Animatic- Rough Cut

When making my animatic although I timed the pieces when making my storyboard I soon realised that I had to much footage for the length of the track, reorganisation was needed as I rearranged the clips to make sense and still represent a clear narrative. This is a rough copy and I intend to make new clips for the blank parts as well as adding key frames for my final animatic.

Location Premission

Bargain Booze: I went into bargian booze in Oswestry to request premission for filming, I requested to speak to the owner/manager who granted me premission which was excellent,LOCATION SORTED!

Police Station: I visited Oswestry police station to ask for premission to use a policeman for my arrest scene, unfortunately the woman was extremely rude to me laughed in my face and told me I could not use anyone for filming. This is something I will now have to edit on my storyboard and final anamatic!

SkatePark:  I inboxed this location to ask for premission unfortunately they did not reply so I called them and received a really supportive excellent response which is perfect, LOCATION SORTED!
